Are there lots of change management roles available?

Because of the huge number of digital transformation and change projects taking place in organisations of all sizes and across all industries, demand for both contractor and permanent change managers is at an all-time high.
 
This means it is a great time for you to think about your next career steps and start looking for a role that really excites you.

What salary should I typically expect as a change manager?

This will depend on your location, industry and experience. Change manager salaries tend to start at around £45,000 increasing to £60,000 or above if you have more experience. Remuneration can be as high as £100,000 in the most competitive areas, especially in the financial services sector.
 
As an experienced change manager contractor in London and the South East, you can typically expect around £575 per day, and between £750-£1,100 per day as a Head of Change.

What qualifications can help you progress in change management?

Agile Practitioner certifications are increasingly the most sought-after and useful qualification for today’s change managers. Further to this, other useful certifications include SAFe Practitioner certification, Six Sigma certification, PMP certification, ITIL certification and any relevant university degrees.
 
Long seen as the industry standard, taking a PRINCE2 course is still a well-recognised qualification. For a qualification that is more IT and infrastructure aligned, ITIL uses a systematic approach and is aligned to best practice.

What are the most important skills for a change manager to have?

Although strong organisation and agile project management skills are a must, as well as experience coordinating multiple workstreams and resources and the ability to continually adapt, change managers must also have the specific know-how to design, lead and embed this transformation at all levels.
 
These include organisational, process, technological and behavioural change. The ability to effectively influence a varying audience is also crucial.

What’s the career path for a change manager?

Change management offers a clear line into leadership and as you gain more experience in change management, you’ll be able to lend your expertise more towards managing larger change programmes on a macro level. Senior roles like this are often rewarded with six-figure salaries.
